Zeynep Sönmez Bids Farewell to Wimbledon
Our national tennis player Zeynep Sönmez has completed her campaign in both the singles and doubles categories at Wimbledon, the third Grand Slam tournament of the season.
Achieving a significant success by defeating world number 29 Ann Li in the first round, Zeynep Sönmez faced Claire Liu of the United States in the second round of women's singles. In a first set where the game advantage shifted several times, Zeynep lost the final stretch to her opponent, falling 7-5. Losing the second set 6-3, our national tennis player was defeated with set scores of 7-5, 6-3, bidding farewell to Wimbledon in the second round of singles.
In the first round of women's doubles, taking the court alongside her Spanish partner Jéssica Bouzas Maneiro, our national tennis player faced the duo of Shuko Aoyama from Japan and En-Shuo Liang from Chinese Taipei. Starting the match with an advantage by winning the first set 7-5, the pair of Zeynep Sönmez / Jéssica Bouzas Maneiro could not prevent their opponents' dominance in the subsequent two sets. Losing the match 7-5, 2-6, 2-6, the duo also bowed out of the doubles category at Wimbledon.
